From Gulf Daily News - July 11, 2008

THE University of the East Red Warriors defeated the National University Bulldogs 80-69 yesterday in the 71st men's basketball tournament of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP).

Jams Martinez scored a team-high 16 points including four booming three-point shots, while backcourt mate Marcy Arellano added 14 markers.

Big men Hans Thiele and Elmer Espiritu contributed 11 points apiece, as the Warriors, last year's runners-up, won their second straight game to start the new campaign.

Edwin Asoro finished with 19 points to lead the Bulldogs, who remained winless after two tries.

In yesterday's other game, the Ateneo de Manila Blue Eagles pounded the Adamson Falcons 72-45 to remain undefeated after two games.

The Falcons, like the Bulldogs, stayed winless.

UAAP action continues tomorrow, with the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons facing the Santo Tomas Growling Tigers, followed by the Far Eastern Tamaraws playing the De La Salle Green Archers.
